The Maldon church plant
“We long to see a faithful local church established in Maldon so that many more people might hear the good news of Jesus. We would love you to partner with us in this work through prayer and financial support.”
Nathan Sherwood - Lead planter
The need
Maldon is growing rapidly, with significant housing development already underway and more planned in the years ahead. As thousands of people move into the area, there is a clear and urgent opportunity to establish faithful gospel witness in the town. Maldon has a population of 16,000, with around 60,000 people across the wider district. Around 1,500 new homes have been built in the last five years, and thousands more are under construction or planned. Danbury Mission Church is just five miles from Maldon, yet more than 60 people already travel out of the town each Sunday to attend church. There is a real need to establish another faithful local church for this growing community.
The vision
Our vision is to see a gospel-centred church established in Maldon, making disciples of Jesus through hearing and speaking God’s word. Under God, we believe we have the people, the pastor and the experience to launch a new church in Maldon in 2027. We are seeking to raise £250,000 over the first three years. This will help cover ministry leadership, venue costs and the practical expense of establishing a healthy church, with the aim that it becomes financially self-supporting thereafter.
Progress so far
By God’s kindness, we are not starting from scratch. Among the people already travelling from Maldon to Danbury Mission Church, we believe there is a viable and mission-minded group with which to launch. We also already have the pastor to lead the plant and experience in planting. The pastor is currently serving at our church plant in Chelmsford, which began in 2021, and will join Danbury Mission Church in September 2026 to gather people for the new work. We are launching our fundraising campaign while actively seeking premises to rent for Sunday services in Maldon. God willing, we aim to launch the new church in mid-2027.

THE WATERFRONT PROJECT
“Thank you so much to everyone who’s prayed and given to make the Waterfront Project become a reality! We’ve begun using the building to open our new coffee shop, Waterfront Coffee, and are preparing for using the space for our Sunday services. We can’t wait to see how God will use it to reach people across Chelmsford with the good news of Jesus. We are still fundraising for this project, so if you’d like to support us please use the link below.”
